Sep 27, 2009 · In this work we analyze three Mataco–Guaicurú speaking Amerindian tribes that inhabit the Northern Argentinean portion of Gran Chaco region. One hundred and sixty-eight samples of unrelated males belonging to two linguistic families: Guaycurú (Toba from Chaco, n=27; Toba from Formosa, n=37 and Pilaga from Formosa, n=56) and Mataco (Wichi from Formosa, n=48) were investigated. Haplogroup B is now most common among populations native to Southeast Asia, as well as speakers of Sino-Tibetan languages and Austronesian languages. A subclade of B4b (which is sometimes labeled B2) is one of five haplogroups found among the indigenous peoples of the Americas, the others being A, C, D, and X.

The point is that both the Y chromosome Q haplogroup and the mtDNA C1 haplogroup span the same region, are found in low frequencies across Northern Eurasia and America, have been detected also at very low frequencies among Mesolithic people and are now rare in the Old World. Both are absent in Africa. Task Two - Making Notes. Answer key. Task Three - Radio programme. Speaking. Paired exam.
